This work focuses on the interconnections between different art forms and in particular between giallo and Italian painting. Despite similar themes of desire, the body, violence, strength and the use of similar shapes and colours, giallo and Italian painting differ in substance. The giallo is marked by the political and societal upheavals of 1968, and is a new genre that is relaxed, popular and accessible. In contrast, Renaissance painting allows the assertion of power and wealth, Baroque painting seeks to reaffirm the power of the Church and Mannerism to depict its army leaders. And like giallo, which was inspired by painting, this work is inspired by it to re-appropriate its codes to recreate a new history, showing the interconnectedness and malleability of art.
